The Penguin – Sunday 18th Update

Update – It didn’t rain!!

Update To those who looked out this morning and thought they would give it a miss. You should have had more faith!

The rain stopped and the weather cleared so it was safe to get out the 303’s for the 300 yard stage of the Penguin shoot against Horsham RPC who fielded a team against Dorking for the Annual Penguin trophy. I’m not sure how long we have been shooting this but for more years than I can remember. It is a great way to get the older rifles out for a go at 300 yards and then a TR or scoped rifle at 600.

The scores are on the results page and as the 303’s are a bit tricky to shoot (age and post foresight) then nothing is certain. I can report that Dorking came first with a score of 337.29 and Horsham just behind (well quite a bit behind not wanting to boast and all that) with 296.22 so the Penguin stays with us for another year.

There was some excellent scores in the 303/7.62 Scoped category and the all scoped. It was good to welcome the visitors and along with the fine weather it was a great morning.

The next shoot is Scoped rifle at 300/500/600.

Sundays shoot is the Penguin where we host a team from Horsham for a shoot at 300 and 600 yards. 300 is with a 303 and 600 a 7.62. 2 x 10 at each distance.

There are classes for TR and scoped rifles. That’s the plan but the weather may intervene so be prepared to be flexible as we may have to shoot at 600 for the whole thing.

So we will see how it turns out on the day. We will see what the weather brings and take if from there.
