Update – Cracking shoot and we were done before it rained but it was chilly. The scores are on the results page. Well shot all . It was strongly contested at the top with lots of possibles at the 100 yard stages – all to do at 200 though.
The next one is the Christmas shoot and the AGM. See you then.
Sundays shoot is Service Rifle 5. The COF page has the course of fire so please take the time to review it. The file is slightly wrongly labeled as 231123 Service Rifle 5 Course of Fire so make sure you look at the right one and turn up prepared with enough ammunition.
See you Sunday but I cant promise t-shirt weather!
Update – From what I understand the day went well and we raised £135 for the Legion so it was for a worthwhile cause.
Belatedly I have added the scores to the results page so well shot everyone and I hope you saved me a sausage roll!
The next shoot is a Service Rifle – See you then.
Sundays shoot is the Boar Hill Charity Shoot for the Royal British Legion. We will welcome a team from Wandsworth RC who will shoot along side our TR team.
The cost is £5.00 per person for all and visitors / non members will pay overall £10. All proceeds will go to charity.
The shoot will be 2 x 10 at 300 and 600. There should be some refreshments available at lunchtime for all.
Please come along and support the club and the charity. We will hold a minutes silence at 11 as per previous years.
Update – Well it was certainly wet! Having dried out and reflected its always worth turning up as you never know. We decided to shoot both competitions at 600 with the first detail shot at 600 on a 500 yard target. There was on occasion the need to dash to the cover of the 600 yard veranda but we got through it with 8 scores handed in although there were a few who shot as a practice and two disappearing TR shooters who didn’t hand in a card. It is in fact two separate competitions so the winner of the A Whyte was Neil with a 150.11 and the Garrick was Guy (AKA me) with 150.13. Neil was the overall best shot with 150.20 (I don’t think he got that wet).
So given the weather and difficult to see target there was the possibility of a good score.
The next shoot is the for charity Boar Hill in aid of the Royal British Legion. Please turn up and make your contribution and you may even get a sausage roll (or two).
£5.00 minimum to enter.
Sundays shoot is a TR/Scoped at 300 and 500 yards. 2×15 at each distance. As the weather is a bit changeable we may switch to 600 if its awful so be prepared either way.
A few other things to note, those of you who did the NRA RSO course may find that the certification has expired. If you wish to renew this then you can do this on line (for an inevitable NRA Fee) at
There is also a notice that you will need to complete via the NRA for the use of hand loaded ammunition. NRA members will have been sent this but if you wish to shoot hand loads at Dorking then you need to sign this and send it back with your renewal form.
The scores are on the results page. Some very good shooting. A 50 on its own is not good enough as it was won (not for the first time either) bu Graeme Cl who still shows us how its done with a 50.10.
Two 50.9’s and some other close contenders. It didn’t rain and all went according to plan.
Best read this as it relates to holding of components with ‘intent to reload’
It covers two distinct points:
(1) Miniature Rifle Ranges and Shooting Galleries and
(2) Possessing component parts of ammunition with intent to manufacture
With regard to the second part, the key word is “intent” you may wish to consider how you should address this point, however “intent” is a very subjective word and the police may interpret the meaning differently to you.
It might be wise to review the cartridge cases and bullets for calibres you no longer have authority on your FACs to hold.
See the Legislation page for the document.
The next shoot is a Modern McQueens at 300 yards – see you then
Scores on the results page, good shooting all. Scoped section won with an impressive 150..23 and the TR 147.15. Tricky with enough breeze to move the rounds just enough to avoid the target and it was very hot. Still better than rain.
I’m not sure I got all the score cards so if you are missing your score on the list – did you give me your score card??
Hope you all enjoyed it. The next one is a Gallery Rifle.
Sundays shoot is the TR Gravett Cup consisting of 2 x 10 at 300, 500 and 600 yards.
TR shooters will go first (not sure how many there will be) and then the scoped rifles etc to shot on the second detail. Its a good opportunity to test yourself over 3 distances.
The weather should be ok and there will be room for everyone. We will see you there.
Whilst writing I have been advised of an offer on some .243 ammo if anyone is interested. See the For Sale page for more details.
Update – A very nice day with no bad weather and the ground was much dryer than expected given the awful weather all week. Scores on the Results page.
It was a challenging shoot and being timed there was no hanging around. Some excellent scores so well shot everyone. Not sure shooting on a 300 target at 500 is encouraging as the group looks huge. Its raining again now so we definitely had the best of the weather!
Anyway we need to keep things interesting.
The next shoot is a practice so see you then.
Sundays shoot is Scoped Rifle, the second this year. The COF is on the Course of Fire page, make sure you review the correct one and be ready for the shoot stages with the required number of rounds to hand.
The details are largely as before but by popular demand I have added some extra sighters. We will be flexible to accommodate everyone’s so come along and have a go.
Not sure what the weather holds for next weekend but its summer so be prepared for anything.
Evening (or whatever time) all, Sundays shoot is a practice at 300 and 500 yards so bring plenty of ammo. Make sure your rifles (s) are zeroed so we keep everything where its supposed to be.
The weather forecast is best described as changeable so if it looks dodgy on the day we will retreat to 600 and keep the kit under cover. Often the weather forecasts aren’t nearly as bad as we think so its not a good enough reason to not come along.
See you then – bring a waterproof – just in case!
ps – please make sure you filled in the BASC survey – see previous post.
There is a new Home Office Consultation about tightening firearms licencing so you are advised / (required as members) to fill in the survey or risk further restrictions.
The link is tot he Survey and the BASC guidelines for filling it in. It only takes a few minutes and its worth doing or face more trouble with restrictions and FAC difficulties.
It basically takes you to some notes on the survey, a link to complete it and recommended answers. We cant make it any easier for you so please help by filling it in.
