Handicap Cup November 22

This shoot is in the program as a 2 x 15 at 50 and 600 yards. We are not going to be operating a hadicap system and it will be a standard TR scoring shoot with a section alongside for Scoped Rifles so all are welcome.

We will segregate muzzle breaks as normal and you are welcome to shoot both types if you want. It you want to shoot it as just a practice then thats fine but you will have to stick to the course of fire.

Not sure about the weather as yet but we will see how we go.

The Boar Trophy

We held the annual Boar Trophy Team TR shoot today with teams from Horsham, Bookham, Chichester, Wandsworth and of course the home team Dorking. It was an overcast and, at times damp day but it was well supported and we raised about £265 for the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal.

After the shooting at 300 yards we held the traditional two minutes silence to respect the fallen of conflicts past and present.

Instead of the usual 500 yard shoot we moved it to 600 yards to make better use of the club house in the damp weather. the club house was as usual very much appreciated with it being warm and dry with proper facilities and a hot cup of something.

The tem shoot was won by Horsham with 291.27, Wandsworth with 284.28 second. the results are on the page for the team shoot. We were delighted to welcome some new shooters for this TR event.

Of course the catering was once again provided by Barry who not only shoots the deer but makes the sausages himself (they are to die for) and provides them for the club members and our guests at no charge. He has provided this many times of late and we very much appreciate his effort and (very tasty) contribution.

So Thank you to all of you who came along, those who helped, as you contribution no matter how small (and many well above and beyond) who made the event possible.

Enjoy.

Scoped Rifle Shoot

Nice day for a shoot and a some good scores put in. We made it difficult by shooting 300 and 600 yards on 200 and 500 target centres. This may not sound like much of a difference but it makes a significant impact on scores. There were two 75’s, one from each of the Springers – there is definitely some sharp competition between those two.

The results are on the relevant page and I have included to overall results from the two scoped rifle competitions

Well done to Barry Springer who won today with 147.18

The overall winner for both shoots was Alistair Springer with 294 for both shoots. Well shot!

The scores from today include the overall results and are on the Results page.

The next shoot is the Boar Hill so its likely to be a busy two distance TR shoot. We have had plenty of interest from teams from other clubs  so it will be a busy day. There may be some catering of sorts and all enterants will pay a £5.00 entrance Fee in aid of the Royal British Legion. There may be a seperate charge for food but we have not worked that out yet.

Oct 26 Scoped Rifle Shoot 2 2+15 @ 300 and 500 yards

Not much in the way of posts recently I see! Its been a bit quieter as the main project of the George Arnold Pavillion is initially complete. There are still however many (too many!) minor things to sort out and these are ongoing. Thanks to all of you who help out.

Anyway we have the Scoped Rifle Shoot on Sunday. The course of fire is 2×15 at 300 and 500 yards. We may well shoot the second stage at 600 yards so we can make better use of the club house. It doesn’t make much difference to the shooting but its less far to carry the gear and a cup of coffee between details is welcome.

We will not have ammunition or the club AI available as its carer has gone on holiday (lucky him) so sort your ammo out in advance and I will see you on Sunday.

We have the Boar Hill shoot coming up after this one and its a primarily TR shoot. We seem to have many promises of teams from other clubs so if you intend to enter a team let Mark now the numbers in advance so we can be prepared.

DONT FORGET THE CLOCKS CHANGE ON SATURDAY NIGHT.THEY GO BACK ONE HOUR. If any of you forget and turn up early the you can help the rest of us set up!

Bill & Tom Scores

The scores have been posted on the page. Not a great turn out but a number of us had other commitments (Work in my case),

The next shoot is a 300 / 500 practice so we will probably see more of you then.

Gravett / Marlow / Bookham / Sussex 13 September

Today we hosted the annual Bookham TR championship for Full Bore and also shooters from Chichester and Sussex County RA for their Autumn Meeting.   The course of fire was a full Queens 2  (300/500/600 2×10) with sufficient shooters for a teamcompetition alongside the individual (results on the page) so it was a good all round competition.

Not only did we use the club house we also had the return of the 600 yard point (and Barry’s BBQ).  We had some excellent shooting and two scores of 149 (16) that thought they had the top score in the bag. There was however a score of 150 (14) taking the top position so well shot by all.

The teams were 4 shooters from Dorking, Bookham, Sussex and Chichester with the team shoot being won by Dorking with 550.37.

Thanks to our guests for coming along and giving us a run for our money. After 5 years of hard work it is amazing to at last have full facilities in a club house with a proper loo, kitchen, hot water etc. The pictures below show the club house being used exactly as was intended. Members and guests enjoying the day, under cover with somewhere to sit etc. The 600 point is great to shoot on.

There are too many to thank individually as many helped the day go smoothly. Thanks to Phil for doing the bulk of the RO duties, Sid for making sure the targets worked (they all did with no hitches) and for Barry and Alistair for providing the BBQ and the excellent venison sausages.

George and Frank can be proud that their efforts to get this project from the drawing board to reality. I still can’t quite believe we have managed it.

Thanks again to all of you.

TR shoot on Sunday 13th

This weekend we welcome teams from Bookham and Sussex County for a Queens 2 shoot (2×10 at3/5/6) so it’s likely to a busy (and possibly wet) day.

It will be an important day in the clubs TR calendar as we are trying to grow the support for TR events. Sussex County RA will be shooting their Autumn Meeting concurrently.

Please make every effort to welcome our visitors and note that as this is a TR competition his will take priority on range space. Scoped rifles will be shooting on the last details at each distance to ensure the competition details complete as required. Don’t let the TR aspect put you off but take note of the circumstances. There won’t be time to zero rifles on the day and you are expected to have your rifles zeroed for each distance anyway. We can’t afford target damage!

See you on Sunday

Service Rifle 4 Results

Results posted on the page. Well shot Matt – with a K31 proving you don’t need a 10 round mag and if you manage your reloads and are accurate you get the results.

Some of the scores listed are low but there were a number of members who only got a few details in as they were working on the other projects going on that day.

Thanks to Jeff and Paul for spending most of the morning assembling chairs (we now have 24) as well as arranging for some of the domestic items to furnish the club house. More items are on the way.

Sid has manged to fish the data cables out of the water and fix the 600 yard firing point electronics. So as Mark had turfed the point and seeded what will be the BBQ area, along with the wiring we have 600 yards back in use just in time for the next 3/5/6 RT shoot.

Tim was on hand to sort out the ammo requirements and help set up the targets.

So a good day overall, it didn’t rain and many thanks to everyone who turned up and helped out.

Updates

Updates in no particular order:-

  1. Course Of Fire added for the Service Rifle Shoot on 30/8/15 on the COF Page.
  2. The club is looking to dispose of a P14 303 in a Target Rifle Format and a left-handed .22 rifle. These will be sold but are offered to members first. Contact Tim Brooking if interested.
  3. We are considering offering an RCO course at the range on a Saturday in the autumn. In there is sufficient interest we will take it further. Cost is £65 per head. Certification lasts for 6 years. Contact the Secretary if you are interested.
  4. Sid Smith has been co-opted onto the committee to serve as Electronics Officer. Sid is an expert in electronics and has fixed the targets several times already when no on else had a clue. He is a very valuable asset to the club and we are lucky to have persuaded (conned!) him to help out on a more permanent basis. Please join me in welcoming him.
  5. On the subject of targets the new ones have been delivered and are currently in the Club House Store. We will need to plan very carefully how these are rolled out.
  6. We have turfed the 600 yard point and (when Sid does the wiring) we will have that ready for the shoot on the 13th September. This is a fairly large team TR shoot against several clubs so its important that we get everything right.
  7. The club house has been handed over to us so it’s in use. We have to furnish the inside with chairs etc. It will be open on shoot days when we are at that end of the range. We will have the main doors locked when we are up the range but a key (when we have them cut) will be available for members to use the facilities. We need to be careful to prevent unauthorised access.
  8. George Arnold – We will be collecting the George Arnold memorabilia from Ted at some point then we have to sort this out  and then order the appropriate cases for display. It will take a while to sort this out but it is in hand.
  9. 2016 Program (programme – whatever) – We will have a complete reorganisation of shooting now we have a club house. We need to make use of it so we will be shifting things around. If the weather looks gloomy we may well change shoots at short notice and shoot at 600 yards so there is more shelter. Make sure the rifle you bring along and you can hit the target at 600 yards and if the weather looks iffy pack something that will go the distance.

That’s all I can think of for now, See you at the Service Rifle Shoot.
