Bill & Tom 3 July 2016

A very nice day after all this rain for the Queens II Bill & Tom Shoot. No idea why it is called that, it is lost in the Dorking history. It was a useful preparation for the forthcoming NRA Imperial Meeting. That was the plan and I certainly need the practice!

Some good shooting by the Modern boys and some tricky wind (largely unintelligible) picked up at 500 and 600. Well done to all those who turned up and had a good time.

The next shoot is a practice and the annual Cycle Race has forced a range closure on the 31st July so there will be no shoot that day.

The Scores are on the results page.

Well A good turnout and a nice shoot. No drama and everything went without a hitch! some excellent shooting and with some shooters scoring 50 in some stages, this needed a decent AR 15 but still well done. Before the modern shooters start feeling to smug its worth remembering that while we had a to Modern score of 187 (AR 15 with a scope) the top Classic shooter was a 174 with a No 4 that has to be 70 years old so respect to Neil for an excellent score.

Anyway it’s not about the score (although I wish I had shot better) it’s about having a decent day out and we all won on that score.

Some video of the mad minute & bayonets etc.

See you next time for the Bill & Tom

Service Rifle 3 19 June 2016

The course of fire for this weekends shoot has been posted to the COF page.

A copy is here

160619 SR 3 Course of Fire

We will probably have the club rifle to hand (a 303 No 4) but there will not be any ammunition available so you will need to bring your own or make arrangements with a mate.

We do have two RFD’s in the club so you can contact them and see what they have available.  My general recommendation is to buy the largest batch you can reasonably afford and then re zero your rifle to the batch – but that’s just me.

Anyway see you on Sunday and I hope the rain packs up by then.

The Barclay Cup

I have posted the scores on the results page.Sounds like those present had a nice day. I was in Bucharest working on my communication skills!

Contrary to what you may have heard about Romania it is a very nice place and not how one imagines if you read the british press.  Anyway the next shoot is Service Rifle so I will work out a course of fire and post it when I get a minute.

See you then

Kirby Cup and AGM

We held the Kirby cup today that consists of a Queens 1 for both TR and Scoped rifles. It was a very successful day with a high turnout but not all those attending put in a score card. We were saved from the rain and the weather stayed fine. The scoped rifle shooters put in some good scores with 3 of 105 with the top shot being Alistair Springer with 105.19.  TR shooters fond the conditions more challenging and I suppose we ‘could try harder’ (particularly in my case).

Anyway a bad day on the range beats a good day in the office any day.

The AGM was held in the club house and was fortunately largely uneventful compared with other years!

We did discuss the new CASC regulations that we will make every effort to comply with will mean some changes and we will outline these for a special general meeting to be held in the autumn once we have finalised a strategy. You can help the club and yourselves by attending at least 7 events a year at the range. It’s not a big ask and will make a difference. A link to the regulations is in a post from several weeks ago.

The scores are on the results page and a heavy work schedule and forthcoming departure for a spell in Eastern Europe precludes me from writing more at the moment.

See you all soon.

Modern McQueens & and AGM Notice Update

Scores posted on the results page. Apologies to Bob S. who didn’t shoot a 50.1 but a 50.10 that is a completely different score. In my defense it was written on the score sheet as 51 so it wasn’t clear. Anyway a clear winner.

Well shot all, a great day to be on the range!

See you at the AGM

The Modern McQueens is on Sunday at 300 yards. We will not have the club gun or ammunition available due to the holders of such being committed elsewhere. The course of fire for the McQueens is available on the COF page.

The AGM will be held after the shoot on the 22 May at 1 pm. The notices have been emailed but are available here:-

Service Rifle 2 Sunday 24 April Update

Update

A busy but a bit chilly day.  Scores on the Result’s Page. No time to add more.

Well shot to all and see you next time.

We should be ok with the weather so grab some ammo, rifle and bayonet and we will see you on Sunday.

Some pictures from the last Gallery Rifle shoot. I particularly like the 9mm lever release rifles that several members have. As I now have a spare slot on my ticket (!) I might have to get one.

AGM Notice and Results

Firstly the scores from Sundays Scoped Rifle Shoot are now posted on the Results page. We decided to shoot both stages at 600 to take advantage of the club house with the possibilities of rain (I still got wet – but at least the majority of the kit was dry).

The AGM

We have had to move the AGM to 22 May 2016 due to a number of date clashes with other shoots. Apologies for that. The shoot is on a Sunday after the Kirby Cup.

Our forthcoming challenges is the revised legislation relating to The Community Amateur Sports Clubs.

The Government guidance notes are available by following this link:-

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/community-amateur-sports-clubs-detailed-guidance-notes

We have been registered since about 2002 under CASC and this was done at the time when we received the large bequest. What the regulations boil down to as far as we are concerned is that over 50% of members have to be ‘participating’ and will have to turn up to the range about 7 or more times per year. If we have under 50% participating members then we are liable to Corporation tax on our investment income and full business rates.

This is not something cooked up by the committee and is Government Legislation. We don’t have any more details outside what is available on the link.

We will review the options in more detail at the AGM.

The Penguin Trophy Sunday 13 March

Update

Results Posted, Well done Rob Bennett who was the top shot in the 303/TR Competition and also won the 303 Trophy. His Score was 95.5 overall with a 47.2 for the 303 stage.

The Team Shoot, the Penguin was won (for the first time in a while by Dorking! so Congratulations to the team of Tim, Frank and Guy.

Got to dash so will update the site for the next shoot in a day or two. We had a turn out of over 25 so lets keep the attendance up. The next shoot is the scoped rifle and on the 10th of April is the AGM after the Gallery Rifle Shoot.

We are having a slight change of the program for this shoot to make better use of the facilities and to make it a bit easier for the older Rifles.

The shoot has traditionally been 2×10 at 300 with a 303 and 2×10 @ 500 with a 7.62. The match is a TR shoot against Horsham Rifle Club. Most, if not all Horsham members are members of Dorking anyway so we just decide who shoots for who on the day.

The 303 stage has always been a little challenging as the rifles are getting on and the rifles tend to shoot a big group. So to make this a bit easier and to reflect the different target sizes we will shoot the 303 part of the shoot at 200 yards with the targets set for a 300 yard scoring size. The 200 modern V bull is too small to hit with a modern rifle let alone one over 70 years old.

The 500 yard firing point need a rebuild and this is scheduled for some time this year when we can get on the ground. As we have a nice point at 600 the target rifle stage will be at that distance and then if the weather is horrendous and / or cold we can use the club house.

Nothing has to be carried so far either so it seems to be a better fit all round.

The competition is for Target Rifles but Scoped rifles are welcomed provided they stick to the course of fire etc.

So that’s the plan – see you next Sunday.

Sunday 28 Arthur White Results

The results page has been updated with the scores for todays shoot. We had a strong turn out with over 30 shootings on the range. It proves that there is plenty of room for both the TR and scoped shooters to shoot the same course of fire side by side. We segregate muzzle brakes for obvious reasons so remember that for future shoots.

Will shot to Jonno Brooking who won the TR with 96.8 and to Alistair Springer with a 99.11. It was a chilly day and the wind was unreadable so well done to all.

The 500 yard point is going to be refurbished this year as it has sunk a bit at the front so we may shoot the penguin at 300 and 600.

The next shoot is the Penguin & 303 trophy so its 303 at 300 and a 7.62 at 600. Scoped and TR welcome so see you then.
