AGM Notice and Results

Firstly the scores from Sundays Scoped Rifle Shoot are now posted on the Results page. We decided to shoot both stages at 600 to take advantage of the club house with the possibilities of rain (I still got wet – but at least the majority of the kit was dry).

The AGM

We have had to move the AGM to 22 May 2016 due to a number of date clashes with other shoots. Apologies for that. The shoot is on a Sunday after the Kirby Cup.

Our forthcoming challenges is the revised legislation relating to The Community Amateur Sports Clubs.

The Government guidance notes are available by following this link:-

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/community-amateur-sports-clubs-detailed-guidance-notes

We have been registered since about 2002 under CASC and this was done at the time when we received the large bequest. What the regulations boil down to as far as we are concerned is that over 50% of members have to be ‘participating’ and will have to turn up to the range about 7 or more times per year. If we have under 50% participating members then we are liable to Corporation tax on our investment income and full business rates.

This is not something cooked up by the committee and is Government Legislation. We don’t have any more details outside what is available on the link.

We will review the options in more detail at the AGM.

The Penguin Trophy Sunday 13 March

Update

Results Posted, Well done Rob Bennett who was the top shot in the 303/TR Competition and also won the 303 Trophy. His Score was 95.5 overall with a 47.2 for the 303 stage.

The Team Shoot, the Penguin was won (for the first time in a while by Dorking! so Congratulations to the team of Tim, Frank and Guy.

Got to dash so will update the site for the next shoot in a day or two. We had a turn out of over 25 so lets keep the attendance up. The next shoot is the scoped rifle and on the 10th of April is the AGM after the Gallery Rifle Shoot.

We are having a slight change of the program for this shoot to make better use of the facilities and to make it a bit easier for the older Rifles.

The shoot has traditionally been 2×10 at 300 with a 303 and 2×10 @ 500 with a 7.62. The match is a TR shoot against Horsham Rifle Club. Most, if not all Horsham members are members of Dorking anyway so we just decide who shoots for who on the day.

The 303 stage has always been a little challenging as the rifles are getting on and the rifles tend to shoot a big group. So to make this a bit easier and to reflect the different target sizes we will shoot the 303 part of the shoot at 200 yards with the targets set for a 300 yard scoring size. The 200 modern V bull is too small to hit with a modern rifle let alone one over 70 years old.

The 500 yard firing point need a rebuild and this is scheduled for some time this year when we can get on the ground. As we have a nice point at 600 the target rifle stage will be at that distance and then if the weather is horrendous and / or cold we can use the club house.

Nothing has to be carried so far either so it seems to be a better fit all round.

The competition is for Target Rifles but Scoped rifles are welcomed provided they stick to the course of fire etc.

So that’s the plan – see you next Sunday.

Sunday 28 Arthur White Results

The results page has been updated with the scores for todays shoot. We had a strong turn out with over 30 shootings on the range. It proves that there is plenty of room for both the TR and scoped shooters to shoot the same course of fire side by side. We segregate muzzle brakes for obvious reasons so remember that for future shoots.

Will shot to Jonno Brooking who won the TR with 96.8 and to Alistair Springer with a 99.11. It was a chilly day and the wind was unreadable so well done to all.

The 500 yard point is going to be refurbished this year as it has sunk a bit at the front so we may shoot the penguin at 300 and 600.

The next shoot is the Penguin & 303 trophy so its 303 at 300 and a 7.62 at 600. Scoped and TR welcome so see you then.

Sunday 28 February the Arthur White

Ok so it’s going to be cold but it will be dry so there is no excuse for not turning out for tomorrows shoot. It is a TR/Scoped comp and in the programme it is set to be 2×15 at 300 & 500. Depending on the turn out and the temperature it may be prudent to make this 2×10 at 300 and 600 to shorten the time in the cold and make more use of the club house at 600 where we can be warm in between details.

We can decide on the day and there is no reason why you cannot shoot both the TR and the Scoped details I will be doing both if I can do up the Shooting Jacket that is always the challenge at the beginning of the season.

Dont be shy and I will see you tomorrow.

Classic McQueens

The scores are (finally) posted on the Results page and as this was a classic competition the Mauser won at the last-minute over the Nagant. Well shot by the President and the Captain. We only have one of these in the program this year and I missed it so I will see if there is time to have a further 200 yard go at some future date.

Plenty of Modern shooters and despite the mud the event remains popular. We have tried McQueens pairs in the past and we may want to have that at some point so something tl look forward to in warmer weather.

The next shoot is the A White / Garrick that is a 2 x 15 at 300 and 500 for TR and scoped rifle so Weather / Targets / domestic issues permitting I will see you there.

Thanks to to all of you have renewed your subscriptions.

Lets work together for a good years shooting.

Service Rifle 1

No time today as we had a committee meeting after the shoot. Loads of stuff to sort out and the pass from er indoors has expired.

The results are on the results page – well shot to all those who turned out on a damp day.

Going forward – due to the Home Office requirement to record attendance (we do this already) and to this we have to add a record of who shot which rifle on which day you will be required to download the attendance form and get this signed by the Range officer / committee member before you shoot. A copy of your completed form will have to be given to the membership secretary at the end of the year so we can keep the records up to date.

No form no shoot No form at the end of the year then no membership.

Please help us to comply with the ever-increasing rules by sorting out your form and adding a list of your firearms on the back.

Here is a further link to the form

31 January 2016 SR1

The Course of fire is on the relevant page so make sure you read it before hand. It saves time on the day. I know some find it fun to wind me up and not read it but on days when it may be chilly and damp it holds everything up. Likewise the only button you need to press on the radios is the PTT one (Push to Talk) or the Call one. Changing the channel and locking the handset is shall we say ‘unhelpful’.

Anyway rant over (for now) and come along for a blast, all welcome and we should have the club gun and some (but not much) ammo.

You are strongly recommended to buy your own ammo in sufficient quantity before hand. There are several members who are RFD’s so have a word with them I am sure they would be happy to help. The Club ammo is really ment for those who are going to use the club gun.

We would like to have all the membership renewals in by the end of this month so if you have not renewed please do so. We will be sending a list to the Police of all those who have not renewed by 31/1/16 and who have not shot in the last 12 Months to the Police as we are obliged to do. If you are on this list they are likely to  .. well best avoided if you can.

See you at the weekend.

Programme 2016

We have the provisional program below and on the programme page. The dates and events are subject to change depending on circumstances. A downloadable form is available in Excel as well if you wish to edit the shooting record and add your guns etc to your page.

Although we keep a record of attendance it is up to you to keep a record of what you shoot and when. See you on the range. The next shoot is Service Rifle.

Hero Shoot

Happy New Year to all of you.

Sundays shoot will be at 100 and 200 yards on manual targets. We will decide what to do on the day depending on who turns up and the weather (the latter looks to be a bit damp).

The 100 yard details will be shot on the Gallery Rifle targets so you are advised to bring a spotting scope to see the holes. It will be a good opportunity for you to zero your guns for the coming year.

The shoot on 17th will be a further 100 / 200 practice (not SR1) while we get the dates sorted out for the whole year and publish the programme. Dont forget to send in your membership renewals.

See you Sunday

2015 Christmas Shoot

Thanks to all who turned out and helped make the day a success (well sort of) The targets went on holiday early and we had to skip 600 but the pairs snaps and McQueen went fine and was good fun.

I am a bit short on time for a bit so I will add some more details later but in the short time there is  shaky video clip of the McQueen and a couple of stills.

I have managed to repair my walkie talkies!! (Thanks Tom)

Happy Christmas – we will be sending out the renewals and there are a number of notices to post when I get a minute so keep an eye on the site (subscribe to follow if you want to be notified of new posts).
