For Sale Page

We have added a For Sale page so that members can offer items to other members. It is offered as a means of connecting members with something to sell and those who would like ot buy it. The club takes no responsibility for the content or any of the transactions. Contact the club at the usual email address if you are interested and we will pass the message on to the seller. The remainder is up to you.

If you want to sell something (within reason – this isnt ebay) then please contact the club with the details. The For sale will run for a trial period only.

I have updated out links to other related organisations that is on the front page of this web site. I have added linkts to Reigate Gunmakers owned by member Stephen Glasspool and to Crispin Engineering owned by Member David Crispin.

25 Knight Cup/Gellibrand Shield Sunday 25th September

Update – Sorry forgot to add the scores. They are now on the Results page.

The shoot is 2×15 at 600 shot twice (once for each trophy) We had a decent turnout and I lost count of the number of shooters however not everyone put in a score card. Come on, next time put a score in and dont be shy!

Anyway the 600 & 600 shoot was won overall by Rob Bennett with   143.14 who was well ahead of his nearest rival. The Scoped was overall won by Bob Spottiswoode with147.17.

The TR Comp is two trophies and Rob won both of these with the Scoped individual comps being Knight Cup Neil Butler and Gelliebrand Shield Bob Spottiswoode. Generally it was a pleasant day with no rain and plenty of sun, It was a bit breezy though and that caught a number of us out.

There was an eclectic mix of firearms with AI derivatives proving popular

On a personal note my Black Peltor Electronic Earmuffs were returned  so thank you to whoever had been looking after them!

The next shoot is Service Rifle so get yourselves sorted out for that – see you then.

Scoped Rifle Shoot and Range Works

Well we seem to have been quite of the web front for a bit but there has been plenty going on I can assure you.  We have some work to do on the range this weekend but hopefully this will be done on Saturday.

We are going to move the new targets from the club house up the range and see if we can get them installed and working. Sid and his Technical Crew will be dealing with this. At this stage we can’t tell how it will go. The targets are very heavy to move but we should have enough bodies for this and the real work will be on the electrical side.

We also aim to reduce the height of the Service Rife Barricades as they are a bit too high at present. There are a few other minor jobs we need to get done.  We wont be needing volunteers this time round as the main work will be electrical and that will take some time to sort out. Dont worry if you want to help there will be a work party fairly soon to move the sand up the range to fill any holes in the backstop. That will be something we will need help with and we will let you know when that will be.

The shoot on Sunday should go as normal. It is a Scoped Rifle in the calendar but there is always a possibility that we may have issues with the targets as we cant be sure if the installation is completed. Sid will let me know at the end of Saturday where his team have got to so if there is any news I will post it on the web.

To be on the safe side the fall back position is to have a gallery rifle  / handheld shoot if the targets play up so make sure you have something for close range handy in case it goes pear-shaped.

See you Sunday

AGM Notice and Results

Firstly the scores from Sundays Scoped Rifle Shoot are now posted on the Results page. We decided to shoot both stages at 600 to take advantage of the club house with the possibilities of rain (I still got wet – but at least the majority of the kit was dry).

The AGM

We have had to move the AGM to 22 May 2016 due to a number of date clashes with other shoots. Apologies for that. The shoot is on a Sunday after the Kirby Cup.

Our forthcoming challenges is the revised legislation relating to The Community Amateur Sports Clubs.

The Government guidance notes are available by following this link:-

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/community-amateur-sports-clubs-detailed-guidance-notes

We have been registered since about 2002 under CASC and this was done at the time when we received the large bequest. What the regulations boil down to as far as we are concerned is that over 50% of members have to be ‘participating’ and will have to turn up to the range about 7 or more times per year. If we have under 50% participating members then we are liable to Corporation tax on our investment income and full business rates.

This is not something cooked up by the committee and is Government Legislation. We don’t have any more details outside what is available on the link.

We will review the options in more detail at the AGM.

Service Rifle 1

No time today as we had a committee meeting after the shoot. Loads of stuff to sort out and the pass from er indoors has expired.

The results are on the results page – well shot to all those who turned out on a damp day.

Going forward – due to the Home Office requirement to record attendance (we do this already) and to this we have to add a record of who shot which rifle on which day you will be required to download the attendance form and get this signed by the Range officer / committee member before you shoot. A copy of your completed form will have to be given to the membership secretary at the end of the year so we can keep the records up to date.

No form no shoot No form at the end of the year then no membership.

Please help us to comply with the ever-increasing rules by sorting out your form and adding a list of your firearms on the back.

Here is a further link to the form

2016 Shooting Record pdf

31 January 2016 SR1

The Course of fire is on the relevant page so make sure you read it before hand. It saves time on the day. I know some find it fun to wind me up and not read it but on days when it may be chilly and damp it holds everything up. Likewise the only button you need to press on the radios is the PTT one (Push to Talk) or the Call one. Changing the channel and locking the handset is shall we say ‘unhelpful’.

Anyway rant over (for now) and come along for a blast, all welcome and we should have the club gun and some (but not much) ammo.

You are strongly recommended to buy your own ammo in sufficient quantity before hand. There are several members who are RFD’s so have a word with them I am sure they would be happy to help. The Club ammo is really ment for those who are going to use the club gun.

We would like to have all the membership renewals in by the end of this month so if you have not renewed please do so. We will be sending a list to the Police of all those who have not renewed by 31/1/16 and who have not shot in the last 12 Months to the Police as we are obliged to do. If you are on this list they are likely to  .. well best avoided if you can.

See you at the weekend.

Programme 2016

We have the provisional program below and on the programme page. The dates and events are subject to change depending on circumstances. A downloadable form is available in Excel as well if you wish to edit the shooting record and add your guns etc to your page.

Although we keep a record of attendance it is up to you to keep a record of what you shoot and when. See you on the range. The next shoot is Service Rifle.

Hero Shoot

Happy New Year to all of you.

Sundays shoot will be at 100 and 200 yards on manual targets. We will decide what to do on the day depending on who turns up and the weather (the latter looks to be a bit damp).

The 100 yard details will be shot on the Gallery Rifle targets so you are advised to bring a spotting scope to see the holes. It will be a good opportunity for you to zero your guns for the coming year.

The shoot on 17th will be a further 100 / 200 practice (not SR1) while we get the dates sorted out for the whole year and publish the programme. Dont forget to send in your membership renewals.

See you Sunday

Competency Cards

The NRA have changed the requirements for clubs issuing Compency Cards to the point where we feel the revised regulations will make it too onerous for us to continue to issue them in 2016. You do not need one to shoot at Dorking.

We have a small stock of cards that we can issue up to an expiry date of 31/12/2017. These will be issued on a first Come First Served to members who request them before the end of the 2015 by emailing ddrccttee@btopenworld.com and requesting one.

You will have to:-

  • Request one before the end of this year – No exceptions. We wont issue them after 1/1/16 although we can distribute those prepared before the end of this year.
  • Be a full Current Member
  • Be considered Safe for the disciplines requested – Obviously.
  • Continue to be a member (send in your renewal for 2016) – I will be updating the renewal form and emailing them shortly.
  • Have to visit the range and collect the card and sign for it once you have paid your renewal.
  • Will have shot regularly at Dorking during 2015

Once again you don’t need one to shoot at Dorking and if you are an NRA member you can obtain one from them. It is not the clubs responsibility to manage your shooting on other ranges – we already have enough to do.

Request yours if you need one – If you snooze you loose.

Happy Christmas
