Well the forecast is reasonable so fingers crossed. We are at 500 yards for a practice so I expect it will be fairly busy. That being the case we will be asking for additional volunteers to help with Range Officer duties so please help if you can. We will show you what to do an if you have an NRA RCO Qualification that will help.

We will have some limited supplies of ammo but no club rifles as Mike is working. So bring your own (Zeroed) Rifle or chat up a mate and see if you can borrow one on the day.

Well we had the shoot. It was a quick one with everyone having a chance to shoot what they wanted and all went off without a hitch. The attached photo shows that if you forget your breach flag then there are other options. I bet you wont leave this one on the point.

Well no posts for a bit a and a leaking boiler here will shorten this one!  However a brief report on today’s shoot. Primarily this was the clubs Scoped Rifle shoot and a chance for the scoped boys to show just how good they are!

The main competition was F class so to make it interesting 500 was shot on 200 targets and 600 on 300 targets. This makes them ridiculously small and very hard to hit. Mike and Guy both got 74’s at 500 so that was an excellent score. Less to say about the 600 but Mike wins the cup. If we can find it then he can have it!!

The less brave (more sensible) shot on the normal size targets and there were some TR shooters as well. All the classes got along and we had a good day staying largely dry.

The targets have been completely rebuilt and and now have holes all over them. We are going to have to be much firmer with shooters who cannot hit the target within 3 shots. Get Your Rifle Properly Zeroed for the distance!

The target rebuild has improved reliability and the new faces are probably going to be more durable as there is no ‘black’ to shot out rather a different sized hole and you use the target rubber as the aiming mark. The next shoot is a TR competition with invited teams form Bookham and Chichester. There will not be time for plinking or zeroing at 9.30.

29 Shooters braved scorching temperatures on the range today to shoot the Service Rifle Competition. This is probably the highest number we have seen to date. There were a number missing who are ‘shot out’ having been at the Bisley Imperial Meeting last week (including Captain Comms the site moderator)

The shoot was a great success with traverse and advancing stages. We hope to be able to post some photos later but for now the achievements are on the Results page.

The look of the range continues to improve with FSL working on the view of the danger flags at the butts and the double sleeper front safety wall. We only had one shot through both sleepers and into the sand so we may have to fill the wall void with sand as well (in this weather the FSL guys love to be out doors and the exercise wont do them any harm (Sorry guys). They are working on more parts of the range and there is still loads to do but we hope you can see the improvements. We will post some more photos so keep checking the web site. The latest development. After many years we have the flags in a line. We may even be able to read the wind now. We remain ever thankful to Facility Solutions for the improvements. Keep it up!

This Queens 2 shoot was today in temperatures of up to 27 degrees. It was hot inside a jacket and it looks as if it will be as hot for the Imperial. The brave wore shorts and tried to avoid the horse flies. After 10 am it was too hot even for them. Shooting in these temperatures was challenging (well that’s my excuse).

More photos have been added to the photo section showing an old picture of the range compared with a new one. We have moved the flag poles around a bit to keep them more in line so we can better judge the wind movements. Whilst these are not great they can move you out (aside from a thumping pulse caused by the heat).

The scores are in the Results section. We have had to use the new 500 yard point that looks almost too good to walk on. The photo below shows Mike telling someone off for putting an elbow dent in the point! He did a great job on the rebuild and in case you are wondering we had to move 30 tons of base layer to build these up the the current standard. We really have put blood sweat etc into the improvements.

There is a new range danger flagpole in the butts so you don’t have to go wobbling up the bank in the damp to find the old post hole – you have to have done it to realise it needed changing!

Still we move forwards with the next items on the agenda being some seating, gun rests and a 400 yard flag. We should have a specification for the concrete base for the pavilion fairly soon.

The next shoot is Service Rifle with a course of fire on the day.
