Hero Shoot

Happy New Year to all of you.

Sundays shoot will be at 100 and 200 yards on manual targets. We will decide what to do on the day depending on who turns up and the weather (the latter looks to be a bit damp).

The 100 yard details will be shot on the Gallery Rifle targets so you are advised to bring a spotting scope to see the holes. It will be a good opportunity for you to zero your guns for the coming year.

The shoot on 17th will be a further 100 / 200 practice (not SR1) while we get the dates sorted out for the whole year and publish the programme. Dont forget to send in your membership renewals.

See you Sunday

Competency Cards

The NRA have changed the requirements for clubs issuing Compency Cards to the point where we feel the revised regulations will make it too onerous for us to continue to issue them in 2016. You do not need one to shoot at Dorking.

We have a small stock of cards that we can issue up to an expiry date of 31/12/2017. These will be issued on a first Come First Served to members who request them before the end of the 2015 by emailing ddrccttee@btopenworld.com and requesting one.

You will have to:-

  • Request one before the end of this year – No exceptions. We wont issue them after 1/1/16 although we can distribute those prepared before the end of this year.
  • Be a full Current Member
  • Be considered Safe for the disciplines requested – Obviously.
  • Continue to be a member (send in your renewal for 2016) – I will be updating the renewal form and emailing them shortly.
  • Have to visit the range and collect the card and sign for it once you have paid your renewal.
  • Will have shot regularly at Dorking during 2015

Once again you don’t need one to shoot at Dorking and if you are an NRA member you can obtain one from them. It is not the clubs responsibility to manage your shooting on other ranges – we already have enough to do.

Request yours if you need one – If you snooze you loose.

Happy Christmas

2015 Christmas Shoot

Thanks to all who turned out and helped make the day a success (well sort of) The targets went on holiday early and we had to skip 600 but the pairs snaps and McQueen went fine and was good fun.

I am a bit short on time for a bit so I will add some more details later but in the short time there is  shaky video clip of the McQueen and a couple of stills.

I have managed to repair my walkie talkies!! (Thanks Tom)

Happy Christmas – we will be sending out the renewals and there are a number of notices to post when I get a minute so keep an eye on the site (subscribe to follow if you want to be notified of new posts).

Service Rifle 5

Weather looked a bit dodgy first thing and improved once we got started. It was damp but not wet so given the time of year we got away with it (just).

An excellent turn out of 27 shooters and some excellent scores put in by most. Some seem to think that the target is the number on the front mantlet and managed to shower the butt crew with sand. I think the future penalty for that is to carry the replacement sand up the range!

There was an excellent winning score in the classic category put in by Andy Littler with his (brand new) M1 Garand scoring 179 Our leader followed closely second with 151. Clearly time in the southern hemisphere has agreed with his shooting.

The modern class was dominated by Matt Giles with a (highest score ever recorded in a SR comp at Dorking) of 221. I am generally on my own in the modern category but the competition busted me down to third place (at least I beat Bally and thats what counts).

See you at the Christmas Shoot on the 20th. Remember you will need a Service Rifle and a Scoped rifle. Entry is a wrapped gift to the value of £5.00. We may well shoot in pairs so be prepared to share etc. If you feel like contributing some Mince pies and / or sausage Rolls we can see if we can get the oven working and have them hot at 600. Sounds like a plan, see the last post for the course of fire.

Just another thing. I have added the Results for today’s shoot to the results page and after putting it off for a while I have sorted out the overall results for the last two years. These are on the page as well.

In short the results are the total of all the scores shot for the year

2014 Classic Winner-  G Porter 498          Modern  – M Ball  560

2015 Classic Winner C Christophi 670     Modern – G Porter 782

Well shot everyone and thanks for supporting the club.

Service Rifle 6/12 and Christmas Shoot 20/12

We have nearly made it to the end of another year! The weather has turned wintry so it’s a good job we have the club house to retreat to when the weather turns bad. However there is no chance to do much of that for the next two shoots as they are mostly ‘up the other end’

On 6 December we have the final Service Rifle shoot (No5) and the course of fire has been posted to the Course of Fire page. Read it and get ready. Bring your ammo (at least 52 rounds) and a bayonet. You should all by now know the drill for these events so come along and enjoy yourselves.

Then on the 20th we have the Christmas Shoot. There is an entry fee for this shoot and its a gift to the value of £5.00 wrapped and then everyone gets a prize at the end.

The course of fire will be in three stages. At least 34 rounds

Stage 1  – Service Rifle Snaps at 200 yards 10 rounds (Sitting)

Stage 2 – Santa McQueen at 200 yards 2 sighters and 10 rounds to count (Prone)

Stage 3  – Scoped Rifle 600 yards 2 sighters and 10 rounds to count (Prone)

This may well be the return of the Pairs so you need to pair up with a mate and the scores will be totalled for the two. The pairs will shoot at the same time so we will get through the numbers and not hang about too long in the cold and or wet weather. We should have the club .303 and AI available.

So you will need ammunition and a Service and Scoped rifle. I am sure you can share with a pal if you don’t have both. It’s about having some fun so don’t be shy and come along. If you want to donate some mince pies etc then all the better.

Handicap Cup

After Saturdays rather extreme weather we had a crisp & chilly day on the range.

IMG_1439

The Clubhouse was well used and the availability of Coffee and warmth was welcome by all.

We had a decent turn out but not everyone shot both distances. The wind died down and the main handicap was the low sun that was a challenge at some times.

Mark P was the best shot in the TR with 142.11 and the Scoped Section was won by Barry S with 150.25. Good shooting and a pleasant day overall. The full results are on the relevant page.

The next shoot is the final Service Rifle of the year and after that its the Christmas shoot.

The course of fire will be posted soon (when I sort it out!)

Handicap Cup November 22

This shoot is in the program as a 2 x 15 at 50 and 600 yards. We are not going to be operating a hadicap system and it will be a standard TR scoring shoot with a section alongside for Scoped Rifles so all are welcome.

We will segregate muzzle breaks as normal and you are welcome to shoot both types if you want. It you want to shoot it as just a practice then thats fine but you will have to stick to the course of fire.

Not sure about the weather as yet but we will see how we go.

The Boar Trophy

We held the annual Boar Trophy Team TR shoot today with teams from Horsham, Bookham, Chichester, Wandsworth and of course the home team Dorking. It was an overcast and, at times damp day but it was well supported and we raised about £265 for the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal.

P1000262

After the shooting at 300 yards we held the traditional two minutes silence to respect the fallen of conflicts past and present.

IMG_0488The 300 Yard Shooters.

Instead of the usual 500 yard shoot we moved it to 600 yards to make better use of the club house in the damp weather. the club house was as usual very much appreciated with it being warm and dry with proper facilities and a hot cup of something.

The tem shoot was won by Horsham with 291.27, Wandsworth with 284.28 second. the results are on the page for the team shoot. We were delighted to welcome some new shooters for this TR event.

P1000264

Of course the catering was once again provided by Barry who not only shoots the deer but makes the sausages himself (they are to die for) and provides them for the club members and our guests at no charge. He has provided this many times of late and we very much appreciate his effort and (very tasty) contribution.

P1000263

So Thank you to all of you who came along, those who helped, as you contribution no matter how small (and many well above and beyond) who made the event possible.

Enjoy.

Scoped Rifle Shoot

Nice day for a shoot and a some good scores put in. We made it difficult by shooting 300 and 600 yards on 200 and 500 target centres. This may not sound like much of a difference but it makes a significant impact on scores. There were two 75’s, one from each of the Springers – there is definitely some sharp competition between those two.

The results are on the relevant page and I have included to overall results from the two scoped rifle competitions

Well done to Barry Springer who won today with 147.18

The overall winner for both shoots was Alistair Springer with 294 for both shoots. Well shot!

The scores from today include the overall results and are on the Results page.

The next shoot is the Boar Hill so its likely to be a busy two distance TR shoot. We have had plenty of interest from teams from other clubs  so it will be a busy day. There may be some catering of sorts and all enterants will pay a £5.00 entrance Fee in aid of the Royal British Legion. There may be a seperate charge for food but we have not worked that out yet.
