Well we finished up and had a working party on the butts before the rain set in so that’s a definite plus.  We were shooting a 2*15 at 300 & 500 on 200 and 300 yard faces respectively. Given the significantly smaller targets (Particularly at 500) the scores were pretty good.

The targets didn’t play up so hopefully we have sorted out that problem so fingers crossed they behave for a while. Longer term we will need to do a complete overhaul of the butts area, target huts, and the target lifter frames before we invest in any new target kit but that’s for next year. We expect the main contractor to be back on site fairly soon to get on with the pavilion build so we are managing to move things forward.

A big thanks to all those who stayed behind and helped with the work on the targets and tidied up the butts area. It is much appreciated. Some photos below.

The results are on the relevant page and the top score was from a Mr No Name. A number of cards were handed in without a total on them (thanks) and the top score had no name on it either.  Being decent, (I could have eliminated the card and made myself first) by a process of elimination based on the number of cards and the range register the top shooter was Tom Jarman. Well done but put your name on it next time.

Part one of the clubs scoped rifle shoot is on Sunday consisting of 2*15 at 300 and 500 yards. The details will be shot on 200 and 300 yard target faces (just to make it interesting – and to cut down on the number of 75*15’s)

When we finish the competition there will be a work party to do some more work on the targets. We sorted out the front of the targets last time and this time we have to take the back off targets 1,2 and 3 and clear out some accumulated debris. These are heavy and take at least two people to manage the rear rubber so if you can stay on for a bit and help out it would be appreciated. Many hands make light work and all that!

Firstly a big thank you to all those who turned out to help with the targets today. We got the problem sorted by 9am and started at the normal time. It seems the rubber was a bit loose so we retensioned that and it all seemed fine. No odd shots and no sound sensor errors.

We have more to do on the targets and once the club house is sorted then the whole target hut needs rebuilding, the target lifters replaced and the targets overhauled. It is the intention to have some spare targets so we can have one or two being serviced. Still that’s a way off in the future. The good news is that is all worked and we shot as normal.

The scope on the club AE has been replaced and is now zeroed. The new 6-24 side focus Sightron has an excellent reticule and is a pleasure to shoot. It has given the rifle a new lease of life and I am sure it will be a popular choice for the forthcoming scoped rifle shoot.

The next shoot is the scoped rifle shoot and will be 2*15 at 300 and 500 yards on 200 & 300 targets respectively.

We have further good news on the hut rebuild. The footings are now in and we should be able to get the build going fairly soon.

There is always someone who can’t resist wet concrete!

Fingers corssed it all goes smoothly next time

We had a turnout of over 30 shooters today with the majority being TR competitors. We welcomed teams from Epsom, Bookham and Chichester so from that point of view it was a great success.

Unfortunately we were somewhat let down by the targets that started to register scores of 1 in the middle of 5’s and V’s so there is something going on there that we will have to sort out. This happened more often than can be explained by the odd bad shot. Apologies to anyone who was affected by this, we will endeavour to rectify the problem (not one we have seen before).

On the range front we have progress. The pictures below show that the piles have been installed – the odd bits of plastic are covering the installed piles ready for the concrete. The other picture shows the steels and shuttering that will be installed ready for the concrete. We will then get the main contractor on site to get on with the build and the restoration of our 600 yard firing point.

Results are on the Results page and again given the target issue I am sure some of you did much better than the numbers show.  Feel free to come back to another shoot and try again. We will update the web site if there is any progress.

Results from todays shoot are available on the Results Page. Well done to those who risked the weather and had an entertaining shoot.

We are delighted to report that the piling contractor is on site and has successfully driven the test piles. The remaining piles for the foundations will be driven over the course of the next 10 days. Once the piling is completed the ground beam will be constructed.
We hope the lead contractor will be back on site shortly thereafter to continue with construction of the main fabric of the club house.

The next shoot is TR at 300 and 500 2×15. We are expecting a team from Bookham and possibly Chichester. Others are welcome provided they apply in advance so we have an idea of numbers. Although it is primarily a TR shoot others are welcome provided they stick to the course of fire. Muzzle breaks will be segregated to separate details.
