After Saturdays rather extreme weather we had a crisp & chilly day on the range.

The Clubhouse was well used and the availability of Coffee and warmth was welcome by all.

We had a decent turn out but not everyone shot both distances. The wind died down and the main handicap was the low sun that was a challenge at some times.

Mark P was the best shot in the TR with 142.11 and the Scoped Section was won by Barry S with 150.25. Good shooting and a pleasant day overall. The full results are on the relevant page.

The next shoot is the final Service Rifle of the year and after that its the Christmas shoot.

The course of fire will be posted soon (when I sort it out!)

Today we hosted the annual Bookham TR championship for Full Bore and also shooters from Chichester and Sussex County RA for their Autumn Meeting.   The course of fire was a full Queens 2  (300/500/600 2×10) with sufficient shooters for a teamcompetition alongside the individual (results on the page) so it was a good all round competition.

Not only did we use the club house we also had the return of the 600 yard point (and Barry’s BBQ).  We had some excellent shooting and two scores of 149 (16) that thought they had the top score in the bag. There was however a score of 150 (14) taking the top position so well shot by all.

The teams were 4 shooters from Dorking, Bookham, Sussex and Chichester with the team shoot being won by Dorking with 550.37.

Thanks to our guests for coming along and giving us a run for our money. After 5 years of hard work it is amazing to at last have full facilities in a club house with a proper loo, kitchen, hot water etc. The pictures below show the club house being used exactly as was intended. Members and guests enjoying the day, under cover with somewhere to sit etc. The 600 point is great to shoot on.

There are too many to thank individually as many helped the day go smoothly. Thanks to Phil for doing the bulk of the RO duties, Sid for making sure the targets worked (they all did with no hitches) and for Barry and Alistair for providing the BBQ and the excellent venison sausages.

George and Frank can be proud that their efforts to get this project from the drawing board to reality. I still can’t quite believe we have managed it.

Results posted on the page. Well shot Matt – with a K31 proving you don’t need a 10 round mag and if you manage your reloads and are accurate you get the results.

Some of the scores listed are low but there were a number of members who only got a few details in as they were working on the other projects going on that day.

Thanks to Jeff and Paul for spending most of the morning assembling chairs (we now have 24) as well as arranging for some of the domestic items to furnish the club house. More items are on the way.

Sid has manged to fish the data cables out of the water and fix the 600 yard firing point electronics. So as Mark had turfed the point and seeded what will be the BBQ area, along with the wiring we have 600 yards back in use just in time for the next 3/5/6 RT shoot.

Tim was on hand to sort out the ammo requirements and help set up the targets.

So a good day overall, it didn’t rain and many thanks to everyone who turned up and helped out.

This is a new shoot in the calendar and I don’t have any clear idea of the level of interest it will generate. This is how its planned to go on the day (So Far).

We have new manual targets for this (NRA PL7 targets) and the holder will take 2 targets so we can shoot 8 at a time if there is demand.

We will shoot at 100 yards. Shooters will shoot up to 20 rounds in a string to make sure they are ‘on’ and then they will go forward and patch out / replace the target if necessary. The next lot will then have a go. We should be able to get a decent amount of shooting in using that method.  If we have demand we can run some sort of mini competition on the day but it’s up to you!

The firearms recommended are .22 rifles and pistol caliber carbines and the like. I am trying to avoid full size rifles but if that’s all you have and want an opportunity to shoot at 100 yards then bring it along and have a go. I am thinking of the Nagant Carbines and AK types that seem to be challenged at 200 yards.

One thing to note is that you will need to bring a spotting scope or binoculars as it may be difficult to see the fall of shot.

It may be difficult to fit a breach flag to some rifles but I expect the usual high standard to care and safety to be taken so there is no chance of an ‘Incident’.

Whilst I expect there to be some who take a few rounds to get on I would hope that we don’t shred the new target holders / Numbers / shed and anyone who is not up to a reasonable standard may be asked to repair their damage!

The results for Sundays events (the final version that is) are now on the relevant page. Well shot Mark with a top score in the SRA section of 133. He was only two points ahead of Paul with 131 and several more scores close behind. A great shoot and the sunny weather made it a good day to be on the range. Lets face it a day on the range beats most things.

Aside from the pictures of the club house and some action video of one of the new M1 Garands in use I have to thank our resident electrical engineers (one medical and one aircraft) who spent the first part of the shoot re-wiring target 3 to resolve the issue we had at the last shoot. It seems that the previous shot damage caused the intermittent results.

So many thanks to Andy and Sid for fixing the targets. The club depends on volunteers to help keep things going.
