Stolen Vehicle Alert

Nick Baulf has appealed for any information on his Land Rover that got nicked on Monday from outside his house. Its is a great looking vehicle and very distinctive as the pictures below show.

We would all be grateful if you could look out for this vehicle as Nick has spent many hours restoring it and its theft is an outrage. The thieves may will have changed the plates but if you see it please contact Nick.

TR shoot on Sunday 13th

This weekend we welcome teams from Bookham and Sussex County for a Queens 2 shoot (2×10 at3/5/6) so it’s likely to a busy (and possibly wet) day.

It will be an important day in the clubs TR calendar as we are trying to grow the support for TR events. Sussex County RA will be shooting their Autumn Meeting concurrently.

Please make every effort to welcome our visitors and note that as this is a TR competition his will take priority on range space. Scoped rifles will be shooting on the last details at each distance to ensure the competition details complete as required. Don’t let the TR aspect put you off but take note of the circumstances. There won’t be time to zero rifles on the day and you are expected to have your rifles zeroed for each distance anyway. We can’t afford target damage!

Service Rifle 4 Results

Results posted on the page. Well shot Matt – with a K31 proving you don’t need a 10 round mag and if you manage your reloads and are accurate you get the results.

Some of the scores listed are low but there were a number of members who only got a few details in as they were working on the other projects going on that day.

Thanks to Jeff and Paul for spending most of the morning assembling chairs (we now have 24) as well as arranging for some of the domestic items to furnish the club house. More items are on the way.

Sid has manged to fish the data cables out of the water and fix the 600 yard firing point electronics. So as Mark had turfed the point and seeded what will be the BBQ area, along with the wiring we have 600 yards back in use just in time for the next 3/5/6 RT shoot.

Tim was on hand to sort out the ammo requirements and help set up the targets.

So a good day overall, it didn’t rain and many thanks to everyone who turned up and helped out.

Updates

Updates in no particular order:-

Course Of Fire added for the Service Rifle Shoot on 30/8/15 on the COF Page.
The club is looking to dispose of a P14 303 in a Target Rifle Format and a left-handed .22 rifle. These will be sold but are offered to members first. Contact Tim Brooking if interested.
We are considering offering an RCO course at the range on a Saturday in the autumn. In there is sufficient interest we will take it further. Cost is £65 per head. Certification lasts for 6 years. Contact the Secretary if you are interested.
Sid Smith has been co-opted onto the committee to serve as Electronics Officer. Sid is an expert in electronics and has fixed the targets several times already when no on else had a clue. He is a very valuable asset to the club and we are lucky to have persuaded (conned!) him to help out on a more permanent basis. Please join me in welcoming him.
On the subject of targets the new ones have been delivered and are currently in the Club House Store. We will need to plan very carefully how these are rolled out.
We have turfed the 600 yard point and (when Sid does the wiring) we will have that ready for the shoot on the 13th September. This is a fairly large team TR shoot against several clubs so its important that we get everything right.
The club house has been handed over to us so it’s in use. We have to furnish the inside with chairs etc. It will be open on shoot days when we are at that end of the range. We will have the main doors locked when we are up the range but a key (when we have them cut) will be available for members to use the facilities. We need to be careful to prevent unauthorised access.
George Arnold – We will be collecting the George Arnold memorabilia from Ted at some point then we have to sort this out and then order the appropriate cases for display. It will take a while to sort this out but it is in hand.
2016 Program (programme – whatever) – We will have a complete reorganisation of shooting now we have a club house. We need to make use of it so we will be shifting things around. If the weather looks gloomy we may well change shoots at short notice and shoot at 600 yards so there is more shelter. Make sure the rifle you bring along and you can hit the target at 600 yards and if the weather looks iffy pack something that will go the distance.

Yes we coud all hit them with everything from a .22’s, .44’s, 45’s, 357’s, 9mm’s and a 45/70. It was great fun.

We will be doing this one again some time.

Carbine Shoot 9th August

This is a new shoot in the calendar and I don’t have any clear idea of the level of interest it will generate. This is how its planned to go on the day (So Far).

We have new manual targets for this (NRA PL7 targets) and the holder will take 2 targets so we can shoot 8 at a time if there is demand.

We will shoot at 100 yards. Shooters will shoot up to 20 rounds in a string to make sure they are ‘on’ and then they will go forward and patch out / replace the target if necessary. The next lot will then have a go. We should be able to get a decent amount of shooting in using that method. If we have demand we can run some sort of mini competition on the day but it’s up to you!

The firearms recommended are .22 rifles and pistol caliber carbines and the like. I am trying to avoid full size rifles but if that’s all you have and want an opportunity to shoot at 100 yards then bring it along and have a go. I am thinking of the Nagant Carbines and AK types that seem to be challenged at 200 yards.

One thing to note is that you will need to bring a spotting scope or binoculars as it may be difficult to see the fall of shot.

It may be difficult to fit a breach flag to some rifles but I expect the usual high standard to care and safety to be taken so there is no chance of an ‘Incident’.

Whilst I expect there to be some who take a few rounds to get on I would hope that we don’t shred the new target holders / Numbers / shed and anyone who is not up to a reasonable standard may be asked to repair their damage!

Kirby Cup and Shoot Date Changes

Kirby Cup scores are on the results page. The day was dominated by the younger members with Jonno getting 97.8 in the TR and Alistair 100.18 in the scoped. That left a couple of dads proud but wondering if making the kids pay for their own ammo may slow the down a bit. Anyway well done to all.

The club house is nearly ready. The floor will be done in a week or so and then the remainder of the outside landscaping and completion of the 600 yard point and we are good to go.

There are some program changes as the Water aid Cycle race is on 2 August so the range will be closed that day and the shoot cancelled.We will also be cancelling the McQueen shoot on 16 August as well due to some technical reasons.

We have been looking forward to trying out the new Gallery targets so this shoot will be held the following week on Sunday 9 August.

I realise that changing shoot dates is never popular but we will replace the McQueen with the Gallery and hold this on the 9th. The range will be closed on the other dates.

Knight Cup / Gellibrand Shield plus Shoot Date Amendments

Results, such as they are show on the results page. Nice day for shooting and we had more shooters than those that handed in a score. I am sure I could have put in a decent score if only I hadn’t lost the screw that fixes the sight to the Rifle (Bugger) If anyone picked one up at the last 500 shoot I would be grateful for its return.

There have been a couple of tweaks to the program.

The shoot on 23/7 is going to be a 200/300 Practice

15/8 will be the Modern McQueens 3

The forms have been updated as required. The Club House moves forward. The floor finish is going down in early July. I am told the interior is fitted out. There are still things to do but we are nearly there. A bug Thank you to Frank & George who have spent many Fridays on site sorting out the builders.

Service Rifle 3 Sunday 7 June 2015 (Updated)

The results for Sundays events (the final version that is) are now on the relevant page. Well shot Mark with a top score in the SRA section of 133. He was only two points ahead of Paul with 131 and several more scores close behind. A great shoot and the sunny weather made it a good day to be on the range. Lets face it a day on the range beats most things.

Aside from the pictures of the club house and some action video of one of the new M1 Garands in use I have to thank our resident electrical engineers (one medical and one aircraft) who spent the first part of the shoot re-wiring target 3 to resolve the issue we had at the last shoot. It seems that the previous shot damage caused the intermittent results.

So many thanks to Andy and Sid for fixing the targets. The club depends on volunteers to help keep things going.

The Barclay Cup

Sounds an impressive title but the targets played up and the shoot was curtailed. Still the club house is coming on well and it didn’t rain. The results, such as they, have been posted to the relevant page.

We will yet again work on the targets and see what part of the wiring is playing up this time. The new targets have been delivered from Norway so we will have a replacement set soon.

The next shoot is Service Rifle and all the targets will thankfully be manual!
